Jayhawks Advance To Men’s Soccer Regional Semifinals
FALCONER — Jamestown Community College opened NJCAA Region 3 postseason play with a 5-1 win over Fulton-Montgomery CC in a subregional at Falconer Central School’s Bill Race Field.
Jamestown CC owned the early going, with possession taking place in front of the Fulton-Montgomery CC goalkeeper for most of the first 20 minutes, but the Jayhawks weren’t able to find the back of the net until the 24th minute.
Sophomore David Luque opened the scoring off of a tic-tac-toe setup from Blessings Murombo to Gauthier Acloque, and Luque sprinted to a one-on-one against the goalie. He didn’t miss, making it 1-0 Jamestown CC.
The one-goal advantage held through halftime before Dominique Malhomme finished a set in the box in the 60th minute for a 2-0 Jayhawks lead.
Less than three minutes later, Luque found himself clear of the Raiders defense, and the goalie had no chance here either; Luque’s second of the day made it 3-0 Jamestown CC.
The only blemish on the Jayhawks came in the 65th minute, when a penalty gave Fulton-Montgomery CC a penalty kick. Cian Galvin guessed low, and the kick went high for a 3-1 game. Galvin was perfect over the rest of the day, stopping the other eight shots he faced.
Jamestown CC poured it on late, with goals by Braidan Govan in the 87th minute and another from Luque in the 89th making it the 5-1 final.
The win moves Jamestown CC on to the regional semifinals for the sixth straight year, where the Jayhawks will visit No. 1 Cayuga CC on Wednesday.
