Hornets Are Lone No. 1 Seed Locally

Forestville was the lone local school to earn a No. 1 seed as Section VI announced its softball playoff schedule Sunday.

The Hornets will also have to wait the longest to attempt to defend their 2025 championship.

No. 1 Forestville, which won Class D Section VI and Far West Regional titles last year, will host a semifinal against No. 4 Pine Valley at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 26.

That same day, No. 3 Maple Grove will travel to No. 2 Franklinville in the other Class D semifinal. The final will take place Friday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Olean.

Chautauqua Lake earned the No. 3 seed in Class C and will host No. 14 Cassadaga Valley in a Tuesday prequarterfinal this week. Other 5 p.m. prequarterfinals in Class C will feature No. 4 Ellicottville hosting No. 13 North Collins, No. 6 Clymer/Sherman/Panama hosting No. 11 Randolph in Clymer, No. 7 Silver Creek hosting No. 10 Westfield and No. 7 Gowanda hosting No. 9 Portville. No. 5 Falconer will host No. 12 Frewsburg with a 3 p.m. start time.

Barker is the No. 2 seed and Wilson is the No. 1 seed in Class C. They will wait until Thursday to host quarterfinals. Semifinals are set for Tuesday, May 26 with the final Friday, May 29 at 5 p.m. in Olean.

In Class B, No. 4 Fredonia will host No. 13 JFK in a Tuesday prequarterfinal this week. No. 9 Southwestern will travel to No. 8 Tonawanda and No. 12 Salamanca will visit No. 5 Royalton-Hartland that same day. Olmsted is the No. 1 seed in Class B and will wait until Thursday to host the Southwestern/Tonawanda winner in a quarterfinal at McCarthy Park.

Semifinals are set for Tuesday, May 26, with the final scheduled for Saturday, May 30 at Grand Island at 4 p.m.

Dunkirk is the No. 9 seed in Class A2 and will visit No. 8 Albion for a Tuesday prequarterfinal. The winner of that game will travel to No. 1 Iroquois for a Thursday quarterfinal. Semifinals are set for Tuesday, May 26 and the final is Thursday, May 28 at Hamburg High School.

There are no local teams in the Class A1 bracket, where Grand Island is the No. 1 seed. The Class A1 final is also at Hamburg High School on Thursday, May 28.

The Class A crossover game will be played Saturday, May 30 at Grand Island High School at 1:30 p.m.

There are also no local teams in the Class AA bracket, where Williamsville North is the No. 1 seed. The Class AA final will be played Saturday, May 30 at Grand Island High School at 11 a.m.

Jamestown is the No. 3 seed in Class AAA and will visit No. 2 Lancaster for a semifinal this Tuesday. The winner will take on No. 1 Niagara Falls.
