FREDONIA — Mike Kurmis shot an even-par 36 and he and his playing partner Matt Hutchinson maintained their team’s healthy lead after six weeks of Utility Golf League play at The Vineyards.
The round by Kurmis on Tuesday consisted of seven pars, one bogey and a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole. His 36 built off 1-over 37s on June 18 and June 11.
Kurmis and Hutchinson have combined for 93 points through six weeks of competition in the 15-team league. Chris Penfold and Jim Waite are second with 77.5 points.
During the latest round, Kurmis’s net 33 trailed just Jason Jagoda and Dan Johnson, who shared low-net honors with 32 each. Bob Cunningham and Michael Brown also carded 33 net each. Penfold and Bob Patterson shot 40s to share low-gross runner-up honors.
In addition, Patterson was closest to the pin on No. 9 while Steve Tynan had a birdie on the par-4 No. 4 for a skin and was closest to the pin on No. 5. Tynan then sank his birdie putt to earn a second skin.
On June 18, Kurmis shot 1-over 37 and Hutchinson 2-over 38 to finish in the top-two spots on the low-gross leaderboard. Each had a skin: Hutchinson with a birdie on the par-5 No. 2 and Kurmis with a birdie on the par-4 No. 3.
With two untied birdies to close out his round, Jim Ellman also shot 38 gross to tie Hutchinson for second place on June 18. Ellman had a 3 on No. 8 and a 2 on No. 9 after firing the night’s closest-to-the-pin tee ball. Joe Jagoda was closest on No. 9.
Hutchinson earned low-net honors with a 29, two shots ahead of Bob Krzyzanowicz.

FREDONIA — Robert Calph shot a scratch 32, while Sam Foti and Bob Tripp had net 31s to lead the Gene Andolina League at the Vineyards last Friday.
Scratch skins were earned by Calph at Nos. 6 and 7, as well as Dan Alessi at No. 8. Net skins were earned by Gordie Haight at No. 2 and Gib Snyder at No. 5. Snyder was closest to the pin at No. 5 and Tom McTigue was closest at No. 9.

WARREN, Pa. — Sons of the Legion won the first-half title with 245 points during the Tuesday Night League at Jackson Valley Golf Course.
Strong Spine Chiropractic was second with 239.5 points, followed by Shaw House (236.5), Patty Whackers (235) and R.E. Baker and Sons Inc. (234).
Denny Holcomb accumulated the most points for the week with 9.5, while Jesse McMichael, Matt Johnson and Patrick Henry each had 8.
On the front nine, McMichael had the low gross with a 31, while Owen Becker led on the back nine with a 36. Among the seniors, Mickey Caldwell led the front nine with a 33 and Terry Ressler led the back nine with a 37.
Johnson’s net 33 led the front nine and Ross Bevevino’s 32 led the back nine. For the seniors, Ron Boekeloo led the front nine with a 31, while Fred Franklin and Steve Selan both had 33s on the back nine.
