Trojans Implode In Quarterfinal Loss To Rams

MIDDLEPORT — The Southwestern baseball team managed to limit Royalton-Hartland to just two hits, but eight first inning walks, a hit batter and two errors led to the Trojans downfall. The 4-seeded Rams plated all of their runs in the bottom of the first inning and eliminated the Trojans 10-0 in five innings in the Section VI Class B baseball quarterfinals on Monday.

Remington Albee led off with a hit for Royalton-Hartland and Isaac Smith added a single later in the first, but every batter managed to reach base and score for the Rams in the first inning.

With the 10 runs the Rams did not need the best from their pitchers, but the trio of Dawson Draper, Smith and Jake Gould combined to give up just two hits and a walk while striking out eight in Draper’s win.

Peter Conley’s fielder’s choice allowed him to reach third base in the first inning, but that’s as close Southwestern would get to scoring. Jameson Walsh connected for a single in the first, Conley had a hit in the fourth, Judd Harris was walked and both Walsh and Owen Harris were hit by pitches.

Walsh struggled on the mound and was responsible for seven walks, seven earned runs and both hits in 2/3 innings of work. Wilson Genareo finished the game and did not give up a hit and walked just a pair of batters.

Royalton-Hartland advances to Wednesday’s semifinal against the winner of No. 1 Medina and No. 8 Akron.

Southwestern finishes the season with a 13-5 record.
