Frederick L. Obert Jr., 93, of Sinclairville passed away Thursday (April 23, 2026) in UPMC Chautauqua.

A lifelong area resident, he was born February 14, 1933 in Jamestown, the son of the late Frederick L. and Ernestine McIntyre Obert Sr. Fred was called, “Toad” by his close family members his whole life.

Fred attended Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 in Korea and Japan. Prior to retirement in 1991 Fred was employed by MRC-SKF for 40 years.

He was a member of the Cassadaga Post 1280, American Legion, and in earlier years played softball for the Kennedy Methodist Church. During retirement he volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Sinclairville.

Fred built the original family home in Kennedy before moving to Sinclairville. Some hobbies Fred enjoyed were: raising horses, collecting baseball hats, he loved children and animals, enjoyed tractor pulls, Amish auctions, country music, watching tennis and boxing, and could run faster backwards than his wife could run forward.

Fred’s philosophy was, “All you need in life is a good tractor and a good wife.”

Surviving is his wife Catherine M. Abbey Obert, whom he married June 6, 1959 in the Kennedy Methodist Church; a daughter Natalie (John) Manno; a son Thomas (Julie) Obert; son-in-law Dr. Rodney Waite; grandchildren: Zachary (Margaret) Waite, Alex (Rachael) Waite, Nathan (Jen) Waite, Mariana Waite (Reeju Bhowmick), Justin (Beth) Yarbrough, Victoria Joy Manno (Caleb Lindstrom) Jacob (Lindsay) Killion, Dallas (Kyrie) Delcamp, Jess (Cody) Jackson; great grandchildren: Charles, Peyton, Henry, Evelyn, Ruby, Willow, Ayla, Lux, Connor, Alex, Cali, Jaxson, Cameron; and a sister Carol (Mike) Frew; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents Fred was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Waite on April 2, 2024; a brother Terry Obert and a sister Beverly “Becky” Walker.

A private funeral service will be held in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kennedy Riverside Cemetery.
