Week 1 of the Northwest Arena Backyard Curling Spring Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique got off to a hot start, with all 18 teams competing.

MONDAY 5:45 LEAGUE

Cold Beer Here made their presence known, getting back on the ice for the first time in months. Rich Miller and Steve Tanner picked up where they left off, beating Ice Men 39-30 and Tracy’s Dog 48-36.

Kim Hurley and Liz Hinderleider carried the load for Hindy’s Hurlers. After surviving a 22-21 nail-biter with Curling Q’s, they cruised past We Love Beer 40-24.

In the House got off to a perfect start thanks to Glenn Wilcock and Russ Bonfiglio. The pair never folded under pressure in their winning matchups with Girls With Stones, 28-10, and We Love Beer, 14-12.

Nick Lucas helped complete the last-second comeback for Tracey’s Dog. They outscored Girls with Stones 9-0 in the final frame for a 35-30 victory.

Len Comella and Curling Q’s stuck it to Sloppy Penguins 29-23 to split the evening.

MONDAY 6:45 LEAGUE

Curling Queen’s got out in front of the competition behind a balanced scoring attack from Mikayla Fardink and Michelle Blair. The consistent shooting elevated their squad past Frosty Sliders 39-25 and EB Curlers 30-20.

Ellison Sliders went 2-0 versus the same opponents as Curling Queen’s. Jaimee Mix and Tracy Hultin delivered similar results against Frosty Sliders 34-27 and EB Curlers 30-27.

Jeff Housler anchored things down defensively for 12 oz. Curls. His shot making proved to be the difference as they stifled Rock Slide 27-11 and Curling Me Softly 24-16.

Chris Hackett and Curling Me Softly had to dig deep to split the night. They squeaked by Ellison Eeyores 22-21.

Nate Welker and Rock Slide also found a way to slide past Ellison Eeyores 19-10.

MONDAY 5:45 LEAGUE

Sue and Len Comella contributed to a perfect evening for Curling Q’s. They grinded out a couple of slugfests with In the House 13-12 and Tracey’s Dog 26-20.

We Love Beer went 2-0 after going 0-2 the first week. Joe Blair and Cole Kill combined forces so the team could edge Tracey’s Dog 28-26 and Ice Men 31-27.

Steve Tanner guided Cold Beer Here to a 21-11 victory over Sloppy Penguins.

Cindy Panebianco continues to shine week in and week out. In the House took down Hindy’s Hurlers 30-20 thanks to Panebianco’s efforts.

Molly Gustafson and Ice Men controlled the tempo the entire way against Girls with Stones 40-15.

Stephanie Trusso ignited the offense in the second game, picking up a 29-24 win over Brewster’s Bros. for Girls with Stones.

Brewster’s Bros. handed Cold Beer Here their first loss of the season 35-28 thanks to Matt Lebarron.

Anneliese Haight and Sloppy Penguins got on the board after writing off Hindy’s Hurlers 39-30.

MONDAY 6:45 LEAGUE

Shawn Whitmer and Ron DeSantis kept 12 oz. Curls unblemished. They escaped Curling Queens 41-35 and shut down Ellison Sliders 30-14.

Greg Fye oversaw the process for Curling Me Softly in their toppling of EB Curlers 35-27.

Kayla Fardink had the Curling Queens’ offense scorching as they cruised by Ellison Eeyores 40-27.

Sharon Ruby and EB Curlers were able to shut down Frosty Sliders 24-13.

Doug Justham picked up the slack in the second slate. Frosty Sliders escaped Rock Slide 26-22.

Ellison Eeyores and Gabe Harrison notched one in the win column versus Ellison Sliders 36-24.
