Northwest Arena Winter Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique approached the midway point of the regular season with Week 3.
MONDAY 5:45 LEAGUE
Paul Silzle and Todd Frangione righted the ship for Legion of Broom. On their best night of the year, they brought down Scoreless Hacks 40-29 and Fruit of the Brooms 31-28.
Kolby Carter turned the season around for Pepsi 2. He carried the workload in close shaves with Rowers on Ice 15-14 and Pepsi 1 39-35.
Jeff Housler and 12 Ounce Curls handed Brewster’s Bros. their first loss of the year 27-25.
Avidian Needham ensured a split evening for Brewster’s Bros. after a 22-7 beatdown of Curling Me Softly.
Chad Waddington picked up the pace after a slow start for Shoeless Joe’s Pub. They completed the comeback versus Curl Jam 34-33.
Already on thin ice, Blaire Feichter made sure Curl Jam survived the second time around. They held off Gren’s Growlers 34-33 in a thriller.
Greg Fye captained Curling me Softly to a 36-24 victory over The Cheese Curls.
Hannah Hauber lit up the scoreboard as The Cheese Curls blew out Rowers on Ice 38-17.
Frank Fuller caught fire down the stretch for Fruit of the Brooms. They pulled away from Shoeless Joe’s Pub 43-33.
Scoreless Hacks witnessed Jared Martin step up to the hack nicely in their 26-23 ambush of TRCurlers.
Kevin Anderson took charge and helped TRCurlers notch win number one of the year. They did so by taking down a solid 12 Ounce Curls team 31-28.
Mike Stevenson and Gren’s Growlers got the job done against Pepsi 1 17-15.
MONDAY 6:45 LEAGUE
Sour Pickles are starting to stretch the gap between first and second place. Sue Arnold and Katie Stronz kept things perfect by knocking off Team Auto Credit 34-25 and Rock Slide 32-17.
Stark Gravel climbed the standings ladder thanks to Dennis Palermo. He delivered the deciding stone in overtime against Tree Huggers 32-29. Palermo put the finishing touches on the night by paving the way versus Chill Seekers 28-25.
Snow Good at This got back on track behind Anna Dibble and Leigh Anne Hendrick. The two combined forces to stifle The Cold Snap 27-8 and sneak past Rock Slide 21-16.
Glass House Gang broke the .500 mark thanks to Brian Rovegno. He was the star of the night in their conquests of LaMancuso-Arndt 22-17 and Lakeshore Paving 27-16.
Brian Ferry took matters into his own hands to get a 32-25 victory for Frozen Fish over Pickle Pushers.
Kathy Geary flipped the script in the second slate for Pickle Pushers in their 43-20 rout of LaMancuso-Arndt.
Ella White and Chill Seekers made the night difficult for Lakeshore Paving 29-7.
Matt Spillane piloted Team Auto Credit past Lakeshore East 33-23.
STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY 5:30 LEAGUE
Drunken Sliders climbed to first place in dramatic fashion. Autumn Bower got things rolling against Geriatric Curling Machine 43-37. In the back end of the evening, David Bower clutched up in triple overtime to stun Knuckle Draggers 42-41.
Chris Maggio and Head for the Mountains constructed a perfect evening. They pulled away from Girls with Stones 33-28 and We’ve Got the Stones 28-18.
Dusty Carlson and Seth Johnson catapulted Henry James up the standings. They fed off one another nicely in their victories over Knuckle Draggers 44-39 and Hindy’s Hurlers 29-20.
Jonny Smith and J-1 Auto ended up with a split after taking down Rolling Stones 34-29.
Mark Baglia and Rolling Stones took the loss personally by steamrolling We’ve Got the Stones 33-11.
Mark Hinderleider and his veteran Hindy’s Hurlers walloped Hackin Up Stones 47-25.
Mark Melquist and Geriatric Curling Machine played like they were in their prime. They shut down Had a Few 37-24.
Marty Richau and Hackin Up Stones turned the night around with a 45-18 annihilation of Stone Cold Maidens.
Nancy Tuccio and Stone Cold Maidens were able to squeeze by We Love Beer 25-22.
The good news for We Love Beer: Justin Kell ensured their first win of the year. It didn’t come easy, 28-26 over Girls with Stones.
Brenda Munella and Had a Few also notched their first in the win column, 39-28 the final against J-1 Auto.
STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY 6:30 LEAGUE
Jen Swanson and The Brush Offs remain unscathed at the midway point. Her efforts proved to be the difference maker in their battles with The Rolling Stones 30-17 and HALLFAW 21-12.
Jim Panebianco took charge of the night for In the House. He was the star of the show as they ambushed Got Stones 28-24 and 12 oz. Curlers 21-19.
Scott Mekus kept Smokin’ Rocks afloat as they snuck past HALLFAW 19-17 and Rand Machine 22-20.
John and Cathy Panebianco showed off their skills as Perfect Stones toppled Curling Me Softly 40-32 and Curls Gone Wild 26-11.
Cliff Sleasman and Rand Machine dug deep in the trenches to walk out on top of Curling Q’s 17-11.
Chip Perkins was able to anchor down Curling Q’s in their stomping of Curling Me Softly 27-9.
Justin Swanson and the scorching 12 oz. Curlers lit up the scoreboard against Curls Gone Wild 48-31.
Seth Boardman and The Ice Men extended their lead against Got Stones towards the end, coming away with a 38-29 victory.
STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY 7:30 LEAGUE
12 oz. Curlers have stayed flawless thanks to Tim Sturges and Ryan Short. The two combined forces and defeated a handful of worthy opponents; those being The Dot’s Men 45-35 and Curl Power 35-23.
Larry Troutman and Darren Hoovler have potentially put a target on Shawbucks. They got Barney’s Hoof Trimming and UPMC’s best shots, but still moved to second with 29-24 and 30-23 triumphs.
Martha Johnson and Sandy Everson are starting to put the pieces together for Cold as Ice. They had no issues with Ice & Easy 36-11 and Sub Zero 30-20.
Six Stones and a Stick had a successful outing behind Jill Barton and Brittney Reitz. They oversaw the way against Haggy Jr. Curling 26-19 and The Flintstones 28-18.
Bruce Dudgeon quarterbacked things for The Dot’s Men in their 29-19 conquest of Haggy Jr. Curling.
Jen Scolton and Curl Power caught fire in their matchup with Game of Stones 30-14.
Josh Arnone received recognition from his Game of Stones in their 33-29 takedown of Curling Queens.
Brandon Rowley and The Flintstones were in cruise control the whole way with UPMC 32-11.
Ice and Easy pulled out a gritty win versus Barney’s Hoof Trimming 18-17 thanks to Kiersten Hanson.
Congratulations to Lisa McGrough and Curling Queens on their first victory of the year. They pulled out a tough one with Sub Zero 22-19.
RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP 4:30 FRIDAY LEAGUE
Bob and Sharon Gustafson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Northwest Arena on Friday in a big way as their combined stellar play led the Bemus Sliders to two wins over Curl Jam, 39-27, and Ba Na Ma Na, 32-30.
2 Cups and 1 Curl remained undefeated with two victories over Curlews 36-21 and Frost Bitten Twice Shy 26-25 behind strong play from Zach Haller and Josh Watson.
Cold Beer Here stayed within striking distance of first place with two close matches, against last year’s champion Tracy’s Dog 46-44, and On the Rocks 37-34, as Rich Miller and Steve Tanner led the way.
Seminar Group also went 2-0, as they bested Sweeping Beauties 43-38 and Tracy’s Dog 36-34, as Eric Maloney and Wayne Rishell were the stars of the Group.
Barb Lyons was on top of her game, as she led Lions and Bears past Sweeping Beauties 48-37 in a high-scoring affair.
Liz Kaltenbach slid Curl Jam to victory over the Bemus Boulders 40-22.
