FREWSBURG — Just a freshman, there’s not a lot on the basketball court Jadyn Trocki can’t do.
Her talents were on full display this week at the Frewsburg Holiday Tournament.
The Bears guard scored 20 points, picked up seven steals, grabbed six rebounds and handed out five assists en route to tournament Most Valuable Player honors as Frewsburg beat Lockport 64-37 in the tournament’s championship game Friday at Frewsburg Middle/High School.
“It doesn’t surprise me anymore, that’s our expectation at this point. If she doesn’t do that stuff, then I feel like she hasn’t played well enough for herself,” Frewsburg head coach Sierra Beaver said of Trocki. ” … She’s awesome. She works hard, she gets a lot of tips and finishes a lot of shots that other players don’t finish. She’s fun to watch.”
Junior Taytum Jimerson — on her birthday — added 19 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists while also being named to the all-tournament team for Frewsburg.

The Bears scored the first seven points of the game, but the Lions hung around in the first quarter despite committing 12 turnovers that led to eight points at the other end of the floor for Frewsburg.
“We score most of our points by putting pressure on people, getting turnovers and turning them into quick buckets,” Beaver said. ” … That’s a great way to get us going, get us started and get us into the flow of the game.”
Teghan Trocki nailed a 3-pointer to end the first half that gave the Bears a 32-18 lead at the break, then Frewsburg scored the first eight points of the third quarter, again taking advantage of Lockport turnovers to make it 40-18 just 1:32 into the second half.
The Lions never challenged again.
Teghan Trocki finished with 13 points and five rebounds; and Ava Jimerson — celebrating a birthday with her twin sister — grabbed five rebounds and four steals.
“(Thursday) I didn’t feel like we played with a lot of urgency. Today it felt like we came out and played aggressively on offense,” Beaver said. “Defensively we were talking and our rotations were there.”
Azriel Hall led Lockport with 16 points and Emma Buzak added 12 as both were named to the all-tournament team.
“Experience is huge for us any way we can get it on back-to-back days. No. 23 from Lockport is an exceptional player, she’s super fast so getting experience playing against that speed is awesome for us,” Beaver said of Hall. “There were a lot of good things to help us get to our goals this year.”
In the consolation game, Salamanca took the lead late and hung on down the stretch for a 45-41 victory over Westfield.
Lezly McComber, who earned the Warriors’ spot on the all-tournament team, led her team with 17 points and Makenzie Crouse chipped in 13.
Tanleigh Bestine, the final member of the all-tournament team, led the Wolverines with 20 points, six rebounds and two steals. Mackenzie Schumaker also grabbed six rebounds and Sydney Hotchkiss pulled down five.
