LAKEWOOD — The three-day Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Championships concluded Saturday at the Lakewood YMCA and the tennis players from Falconer and Chautauqua Lake were the headliners.

The Golden Falcons will send Angelina Fiasco and Riley Farrugello — the CCAA’s first and second singles seeds respectively — to the Section VI Championships later this week, while the Thunderbirds’ will send Elise Riedesel, the No. 3 singles seed, and the No. 1 doubles team of Olivia Shearer and Mary Marshaus.

The other doubles teams advancing to the sectionals, which will be held Friday in Buffalo, are Erika Pickard and Abby Strother of Southwestern, the No. 2 seed; and Nella Darnell-Sterback and Charis LaBarr of Fredonia, the No. 3 seed.

Fiasco’s path to the top seed were the result of a 6-0, 6-0 win over Riedesel in the semifinals and a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Farrugello in the final.

Farrugello earned a berth in the final after knocking off teammate Myla Brainard 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals. Riedesel then upended Brainard 6-2, 6-4 in the other final.

In doubles, Pickard and Strother downed Grace Kutschke and Brooke Golab of Frewsburg 7-6 ( 7-5), 6-4, and Shearer and Marshaus defeated Darrell-Sterback and LaBarr of Fredonia 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.

In the finals, Shearer and Marshaus held off Pickard and Strother 7-6 (7-5), 6-4; and Darrell-Sterback and LaBarr knocked off Kutschke and Golab 6-1, 6-1.
