The Premier Lacrosse League held its awards ceremony on Saturday and Silver Creek Central School alum Zed Williams of the Whipsnakes was up for another individual trophy in the league.
Williams was announced as the winner of the Dave Huntley Sportsmanship Award, being selected over fellow finalists Mark Glicini of Chaos and Eric Law of Atlas.
The award is given in memory of Dave Huntley, a three-time All-American at Johns Hopkins and the 1979 McLaughlin Award winner as the nation’s best midfielder, Huntley was a pioneer for the growth of field lacrosse in Canada. Respected by teammates and opponents alike, Huntley had a positive effect on so many lacrosse players from the high school to college to professional to international ranks. This award is given to the player who demonstrates excellent sportsmanship.
Williams adds this PLL individual award right along his 2020 MVP Trophy when he led the Whipsnakes to the championship.
The No. 6 Whipsnakes set out for another title starting today in the playoffs against No. 3 Waterdogs on ESPN+ at 2:20 p.m. In the last meeting on July 14 the Waterdogs defeated the Whipsnakes 16-13 and Williams managed seven points on five goals and two assists.
The Whipsnakes enter the playoffs losing their last two games to Archers 16-11 and then Cannons 15-11. In his last two games Williams has been limited to just one assist and if the Whipsnakes hope to make another deep playoff run they’ll need him to get into peak playoff form.
