C/S/P’s White Throws Five-Inning No-Hitter
CLYMER — Austin White threw a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Clymer/Sherman/Panama to a 17-0 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 baseball win over Chautauqua Lake on Tuesday.
The Wolfpack (9-1, 8-1) scored nine runs in the first inning and eight more in the second.
Trent Burchanowski went 2 for 2 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored while Bryce Hinsdale was 2 for 3 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. Micah Willink had three singles, three RBIs and two runs scored; Gabe Roth doubled, scored two runs and drove in a run; Kayden Bekerrink had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run scored; and Dylan Michael had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for C/S/P.
Nate Henry, Devin Hewes and Clayton Smith combined to strike out four on the mound for the Thunderbirds (3-3, 3-3).
OLEAN ONE-HITS DUNKIRK
DUNKIRK — Aaron Vencent tossed a complete-game one-hitter as Olean downed Dunkirk 7-2 in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball game Tuesday at Al Stuhlmiller Field.
Vencent struck out five, walked five and received all the runs he would need when the Huskies (7-4, 7-3) plated four runs by the second inning.
“We put the ball in play again … we were swinging the bats, but we were just not making any solid contact,” Marauders coach Frank Jagoda said. “Then we get behind and it’s hard to do anything. It’s hard to play catch-up.”
Ethan Sumcinski (double) and Lucas Brushingham (two doubles) led Olean with three hits apiece, and Thomas Bates added a pair of singles.
Zach Zentz had Dunkirk’s lone hit, a double in the seventh inning.
The Marauders (7-7, 4-5) travel to Falconer on Thursday.
RED DRAGONS STAY UNBEATEN
BEMUS POINT — Kolden McCall followed up Tucker Fenton’s Monday gem with a strong outing of his own, striking out 10 as Maple Grove beat Pine Valley 4-1 in Division 2 action Tuesday.
The Red Dragons (9-0, 9-0) went up 3-0 in the fourth inning. Colin McPherson hit a solo home run, Fenton walked and Nash Luther reached on an error to plate the second run. McCall followed with an RBI single to score Andrew Auer.
In Maple Grove’s fifth, Fenton singled before Kynan Egan drove him in with an RBI single.
The Panthers (7-7, 5-5) got on the board in the sixth when Darwin Westlund hit an RBI single to score Bryce Sercu.
George Kruszka and Sercu combined for seven strikeouts on the mound for Pine Valley. Sercu and Donovan Guglielmi had doubles.
Jake Vaillancourt struck out the side in the seventh for the Red Dragons.
BLACK KNIGHTS WIN AGAIN
SILVER CREEK — Shawn Kelly singled and drove in three runs as Silver Creek/Forestville beat Salamanca 8-1 in Division 3 play.
Cade Neubauer threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks for the Black Knights (10-3, 8-2). Gavin Borrello doubled in the win.
Harley Hoag had two hits for the Warriors (10-6, 7-4). Shawn Bacelli and Cory Holleran combined to walk five and strike out three on the mound.
PORTVILLE POWERS PAST CARDINALS
RANDOLPH — Luke Petryszak’s third-inning grand slam gave Portville a 10-0 lead en route to a 16-1 Division 3 victory over Randolph.
Michael Cole added a two-run home run and Maxx Yehl had a solo shot for the Panthers (13-1, 10-0).
Mario Pascucci went 4 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored; Ryan Stillman was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored; and Luke Petruzzi doubled in the win.
Pascucci also threw a five-inning complete game with nine strikeouts.
Luke Pagett doubled, hit a home run and drove in the lone run for the Cardinals (1-10, 0-10).
HERMAN STARS FOR GOWANDA
JAMESTOWN — Blake Herman went 3 for 3 with a two-run home run and also earned the win on the mound with six strikeouts over four innings as Gowanda beat Jamestown 13-2 in Division 1 action.
Herman finished with four RBIs and four runs scored; Maddox Browning went 3 for 3, including a bases-clearing double in the first inning; and Drew Shull doubled for the Panthers (10-4, 8-2). Alex Pachucinski struck out the side in the fifth inning to end the game.
Brandon Lobb and Caleb Bane each had two hits, including a double; Nate Torres had an RBI double; John Torres Jr. had an RBI single; and Juan Matos doubled for the Red Raiders (3-8, 2-7).
Jamestown won the junior varsity game 11-1 in six innings on the strength of Dom Weber’s one-hitter. Weber struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter.
Mikey Patrick had three hits, Weber helped his own cause with two and Owen Kearney also had two to lead the Red Raiders’ offensiv attack.
ELLICOTTVILLE PREVAILS
ELLICOTTVILLE — Caedon Wyatt tossed a complete game and Braylon Wyatt stroked a double and drove in a run to highlight Ellicottville’s 8-6 victory over North Collins in a Division 3 game.
“We put the ball in play, put some pressure on them and took advantage of mistakes,” Eagles coach Chris Mendell said.
Caedon Wyatt surrendered just two earned runs, struck out five and walked three. Ellicottville (9-7, 6-5) scored in every inning but the fourth and was the beneficiary of six walks and six errors.
Derek Ebersole collected three hits, including a double, and Matt Warsaw also smacked a two-bagger for North Collins (2-8, 2-8).
BROCTON ROUTS WESTFIELD
BROCTON — Brocton (4-6, 4-6) defeated Westfield 20-1 in Division 2 play on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs won in five innings, highlighted by an 11 run third. The offense was led by Aidan Gatto going 2-for-5 with a double and four runs scored; Ryan Laurito went 1-for-4 doubled, walked twice and scored four times; Christian Garcia went 2-for-4 with three RBIs; and Kayden Ehmke went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Gatto picked up the win on the mound pitching all five innings, giving up three hits, one run and striking out three.
Westfield’s (1-10, 1-9) Aaron Fuller scored its only run and Chris Decanti had the RBI. Tristan Phillips was the losing pitcher for the Wolverines.
TIMBERWOLVES LOSE
FRANKLINVILLE — Franklinville defeated Cattaraugus-Little Valley 12-2 in Division 3 action.
Kody Colton and Nick Wolfe both had two hits for the Timberwolves (1-10, 1-9) and Colton was the losing pitcher on the mound with seven strikeouts.
Franklinville (8-4, 8-4) was led by Noah Schenk scoring twice and hitting two singles; bo Bielecki hit two doubles, two RBIs and scored three times. Matt Splitter was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and striking out five.
