Generals Sweep Weekend Series From Rebels

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Brent Keefer scored with 57 seconds left in overtime as the Northeast Generals completed a two-game weekend sweep of the Jamestown Rebels with a 3-2 victory Saturday at the New England Sports Village.

Jamestown (8-9-2-1) had a pair of one-goal leads wiped out in the first two periods.

Carter Casper’s first goal of the season from Owen West and Noah Szretter gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead in the first period.

Northeast (12-10-0-0) tied the game just 50 seconds into the second period when Ryan Gordon scored his seventh of the season from Jared Scott and Tyler DesRochers. With the man-advantage, John Lundy’s 10th goal of the season at the 6:49 mark of the second period gave Jamestown a 2-1 lead. Marcus Kivela Carlzon and Szretter were credited with assists.

But the Generals tied the game at the 13:45 mark of the second period when Paul Minnehan scored his 10th of the season from Scott and Jackson McCarthy.

After a scoreless third period, Keefer won the game in overtime with assists from Minnehan and David Andreychuk.

Nolan Suggs made 34 saves for Jamestown while Cullen DeYoung made 32 saves for Northeast.

On Friday afternoon, the Generals scored the final four goals of the game to rally for a 5-2 victory.

Northeast led 1-0 after the first period on Keefer’s 11th goal of the season from Andreychuk and Kyle Schroeder.

At the 3:44 mark of the second period, the Rebels’ Landon MacDonald scored his first goal of the season from Jak Vaarwerk to tie the game and less than a minute later, Kivela Carlzon’s second goal of the season from West made it 2-1.

But just 24 seconds later, the Generals tied the game on DesRochers’ first goal of the season from Minnehan and Scott. Northeast took the lead for good at the 13:30 mark of the second period on Andreychuk’s eight goal of the season from Asher Wites and Keefer.

In the third period, Joe Schubert’s third goal of the season and Andreychuk’s ninth into an empty net put the game away for the Generals.

Jon Howe made 30 saves for Jamestown and DeYoung made 20 for Northeast.

The Rebels return home this week for a rare 7:30 Wednesday evening game against the Johnstown Tomahawks at Northwest Arena. The same two teams will meet Friday and Saturday in Johnstown.
