Aidan Kennedy turned in a heroic performance in last week’s road loss to Fredonia.

Friday night he was equally as good.

The senior quarterback passed for four touchdowns and ran for another to lead Southwestern to a 36-12 Class C South victory over Allegany-Limestone at Charles A. Lawson Field.

The win improved the Trojans’ record to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the league, heading into next week’s regular-season finale against Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove.

One wonders what Kennedy can do for another encore.

Against the Gators (3-4, 1-4) he completed 19 of 31 passes for 269 yards and scoring strikes of 50 and 9 yards to Cameron Lemk, and 8 and 35 yards to Matt Pannes. He also added another 83 yards on the ground, including a 6-yard TD burst, as the Trojans won going away.

Neves Hoose booted a 30-yard field goal and converted three extra-point tries to close out the scoring, Jameson Walsh ran for 69 yards on 11 carries and Max Marshall led Southwestern’s defensive effort with 14 tackles.

Allegany-Limestone, which trailed 17-0 at intermission, scored a pair of second-half touchdowns, one on Kevin Edward-Hardy’s 3-yard run and the other on Gabe Ramadhan’s 1-run plunge.

The highlight of the game, however, may have come on a two-point conversion attempt after Kennedy’s second TD pass to Lemk with just under a minute remaining in the game. A holding penalty negated a successful two-point try that pushed the ball back 15 yards.

That’s when Kennedy nearly pulled off another highlight-reel performance. From the shotgun, he took the snap and was immediately under pressure from Allegany-Limestone’s defenders. Scrambling for his life, Kennedy — after retreating nearly 20 yards — fired on the run toward the end zone where the pass slipped through the hands of a Southwestern receiver.

That prompted one sideline observer to exclaim: “I didn’t realize Josh Allen was here.”

The Buffalo Bills’ quarterback would have been proud of that effort.

Notes: The character athletes of the game were Mitch Pike of Southwestern and Matt Giardini of Allegany-Limestone.
