Speed Development Camp Held At Strider Field
A Speed Development Camp for students in grades 1-6 was held at Strider Field last week with 68 students attending. The four-day camp concluded with a mini track meet for the athletes to showcase what they learned from members of the high school cross-country and track teams. Although the weather did not allow for the long-jump competition to take place due to the large amounts of rain on the morning of the meet, students were able to choose from the 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-meter runs and the 55-meter hurdles. Parent Nichole Mason, who had a fourth- and sixth-grader attend camp, said, “Speed camp was so well organized. Our children were inspired, motivated and encouraged to shine. Each day they woke up ready to attend and give 100% on the track.” Sixth-grader Ava Chapman described camp by saying, “It was really fun. I loved trying different events and rotating through them. My favorite was the hurdles, and it was fun to make new friends.”
