Nine Local Girls Named To All-State Teams

Ashley Gotowka turned in one of the more impressive seasons by a local pitcher in recent memory this spring.

And the Dunkirk right-hander continues to receive postseason accolades for her performance.

On Wednesday, the Marauders’ graduating senior garnered possibly her highest praise when she was one of nine local athletes to be named to the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports softball all-state team.

Gotowka was named to the Third Team in Class B after a season during which she threw a perfect game and five no-hitters. She struck out 196 in 16 games, pitching to a 1.00 earned run average while holding opposing batters to a .120 average.

In Class C, Gowanda’s Zoey Kota was the highest selection, also with a Third-Team spot. The senior shortstop hit .597 with 14 doubles, four home runs, two triples, 26 RBIs and 27 runs scored for the Panthers. She made just one error in 25 chances in the field.

Westfield’s Haleigh Dellow and Falconer senior Nicole Youngberg were named to the Fourth Team in Class C.

Dellow, the Wolverines’ sophomore pitcher and infielder, went 9-3 with a 1.31 ERA and 136 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings. At the plate, she was maybe even more impressive with a .585 batting average that included seven doubles, five triples and five home runs. Dellow drove in 27 runs and also scored 27 runs.

Chautauqua Lake’s Olivia Herrington was named to the Fifth Team in Class C. The sophomore right-hander went 8-2 with a 1.61 ERA for the Thunderbirds, striking out 120 in the circle while also hitting .560 with a .950 slugging percentage and 1.570 OPS.

North Collins’ Hailey Jasinski was named to the First Team in Class D. The sophomore catcher hit .725 with nine home runs, eight doubles and three triples while driving in 46 runs and scoring 29.

Panama’s Ashlyn Harvey was named to the Second Team in Class D. The senior pitcher went 10-5 with a 1.06 ERA and 176 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched, holding opponents to a .167 batting average. Harvey herself hit .487 with four doubles, three triples and a home run while driving in 13 runs and scoring 12.

Sherman/Clymer’s Amaya Lewczyk and Brocton’s Juli Smith were named to the Fourth Team in Class D.

Lewczyk hit .408 with three home runs and two doubles while driving in 18 runs and scoring 16 runs for the Section VI champions. She also struck out 15, won two games and saved two games in the circle.

Twenty-three other Section VI athletes and three of the region’s CHSAA athletes were also honored.

In Class AA, Clarence senior pitcher Julianna Bolton was named to the First Team; Lancaster senior outfielder Samantha Weber was named to the Second Team; Clarence junior second baseman Mary Blajszczak was named to the Third Team; Lancaster junior shortstop Brooke Frass was named to the Fourth Team; Clarence junior outfielder Ella Pawlowski and Niagara Falls senior outfielder Abbey Roser were named to the Seventh Team; and Lancaster junior pitcher Madison Balk and Williamsville North senior pitcher Sarah Parzych were named to the Eighth Team. Section I Mahopac senior pitcher Shannon Becker was named the Class AA Player of the Year and Kevin Payne of Moore Catholic was named the Coach of the Year.

In Class A, Williamsville East senior pitcher Summer Clark and sophomore catcher Ella Wesolowski shared the Player of the Year honors while Section VIII Mepham’s Brenda Dolan was named Coach of the Year. In addition to Clark and Wesolowski on the First Team, Niagara Wheatfield junior shortstop Elanna Lysiak was named to the Second Team; Grand Island senior catcher Haley Coombs and Williamsville East senior shortstop Abbie Stellrecht were named to the Third Team; Nardin junior pitcher Julianna Verni was named to the Fourth Team; and Iroquois senior pitcher Maggie Lenda was named to the Fifth Team.

In Class B, Eden senior pitchers Marissa Calloway and Kaitlyn Schmitz were named to the First Team; Lake Shore senior catcher Gabby Rodriguez was named to the Second Team; Lake Shore senior outfielder Alyssa Chaplin was named to the Third Team; Depew freshman catcher Mia Vannelli was named to the Fourth Team; and City Honors senior shortstop Alyssa Wasielewski and Olean junior catcher JoJo Gibbons were named to the Sixth Team. Section II Ichabod Crane senior pitcher Isabella Milazzo was named Player of the Year and Ichabod Crane’s Tracy Nytransky was named Coach of the Year.

In Class C, St. Mary’s of Lancaster junior third baseman Anna Dovey was named to the First Team; Portville senior catcher Mia Hlasnick was named to the Second Team; and St. Mary’s of Lancaster’s freshman pitcher/first baseman Alex Packard was named to the Third Team. Section IV Greene’s Olivia Kennedy was named the Player of the Year and Section IV Deposit/Hancock’s Dan Briggs was named the Coach of the Year.

In Class D, Section III Bishop Ludden junior shortstop Kaitlyn Kibling was named the Player of the Year and Section V Keshequa’s Bill Mann was named Coach of the Year.
