Jamestown Oldtimers Swept By Niles, Ohio In Twin Bill

The Jamestown Oldtimers baseball team suffered a pair of losses last Sunday, falling to Niles (Ohio), 18-1, and 6-4.

In the first game, the Raiders pounded out 23 hits to support the six-hit pitching of Ed Mortimer. Pacing the offense for Niles were Tom Pitko, Ron Mortimer and Mike Holisky with a double apiece.

Doug Baldensperger smacked a triple for Jamestown. Ed Baldensperger suffered the loss.

In the nightcap, Jamestown led, 4-0 after 3 1/2 innings, but Niles scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on for the win.

Winning pitcher Tom Pitko helped his own cause with double, while Rick Michaels, Tony Scandy and Dave Vlosick each had a double.

Don Cummings had three hits for the Oldtimers, who will be back in action next Saturday against Champion in Warren, Ohio. Their next home game will be Aug. 11 against Springfield, Ohio.
