BEMUS POINT — Daren Vaillancourt pitched a gem.

The right-hander allowed just one hit, struck out 14 and walked three as No. 2 Maple Grove posted a 3-0 win over No. 7 Portville in Section VI Class C quarterfinal action Tuesday.

“Daren was just a warrior on the mound,” Maple Grove coach Ryan Lucas said. “This game was in his hands. He pitched a great game and made it happen.”

Vaillancourt helped his own cause at the plate with two walks and had an RBI, while teammate Ayden Reagle went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Nathan Petryszak struck out four, walked three and struck two batters in a complete-game performance for Portville.

Maple Grove (10-4) will now meet No. 3 Frewsburg on Thursday in Bemus Point.

“We’re going to take it play by play and pitch by pitch and give it all we’ve got,” Lucas said.
