Maple Grove Squeezes Past Silver Creek

BEMUS POINT — Katelyn Knight singled in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Maple Grove squeezed past Silver Creek, 7-6, in Division 1 West girls softball.

Elise Swanson led off the inning with a single and, one out later, Allison Johnson doubled to set the stage for Knight’s winning hit.

Knight also had a double while Cayleigh Swanson tripled and singled for the Lady Red Dragons, who had 10 hits.

Lynne Nordin pitched all eight innings for the winners, striking out eight and walking one. She gave up eight hits.

Julia Hill and Ivee Pagels were on the mound for Silver Creek with Pagels taking the loss.

Harmonie Eggleston had an RBI triple for SC during the three-run third inning.

OSTRYE PACES HORNETS

CLYMER — Behind the pitching of Brooke Ostrye, Forestville raised its Division 2 West record to 5-0 and overall to 5-2 by blanking Clymer (1-4), 19-0.

Ostrye hurled a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks while batting 3-for-5 with a double.

Caroline Kaicher batted 4-for-6 with three runs scored, Alison Mierzwa 4-for-5 with four RBIs and Makenzie Press 3-for-5 with three runs scored in a 20-hit attack.

The hits by Clymer were a double by Lauren Dunnewald and a single by Samantha Brumagin.

JHS FALLS TO SPARTANS

Rachel Dimitroff struck out eight and issued just two walks as Williamsville North downed Jamestown, 15-3, in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 action.

Wilmarie Guzman led the Lady Red Raiders (1-3, 0-3) with a single, double and an RBI. Olivia Gates took the loss.
