Some ‘Can’t Adjust’ To Imposed Changes To The Reader’s Forum: I laugh sardonically at Dr. Jeffrey Victor’s condescending letter in today’s Post-Journal. To The Reader’s Forum: The nearly universal response to the loss of the beautiful trees on Third Street was grief, disappointment and for some, anger. The difficult decision made by city leaders and arborist Dan Stone must have been made easier knowing that Jamestown has a well-trained team at the Parks and Recreation Department who were tasked with this unenviable project. Stopping Political Violence In America To The Reader’s Forum: As a sociologist, I want to understand the origins of the kind of political violence we all saw in the mob that broke into our capitol building. I was shocked by an opinion survey reported on NPR radio on Feb. 11. The report noted that a national opinion poll found that 39% of Republicans justify political violence. More specifically, they agreed with the proposition that, ”If elected leaders will not protect America, the people must do it themselves, even if it requires violent actions”. A Call For Reed To Take Action Against Trump To The Reader’s Forum: Congressman Tom Reed is apparently considering a run for governor against Andrew Cuomo, according to news articles. It is hard to believe that a Republican living out on the Southern Tier could unseat Cuomo in our heavily Democratic state. Rather than tilting at windmills, Congressman Reed could leave his mark if he called out the former president for his role in instigating the Jan. 6 insurrection in the Capitol.
