To The Reader’s Forum: As our 30th year of Links Charity has come to a close, I wish to thank so many people: all our volunteers, all our business supporters both large and small, all individuals and companies who supported Line The Drive and all the PGA pros who have continued to come to Moon Brook Country Club year after year. Kudos also to Megan and Brigetta, who went far above and beyond this year. Last, but not least, gratitude for Sandy Anderson and Mary Blair, who had the vision to found this pro-am tournament with the goal of keeping cancer diagnosis and treatment ...

Justice Defined By Another Standard

Justice Defined By Another Standard To The Reader’s Forum: The defacement and disrespect of the statues in Dow Park memorializing the Underground Railroad blemishes our area. I agree with the ‘No Hate in Jamestown Rally” deploring the destruction of property. At that rally, a spokesman said, “Justice needs to be intersectional. If your justice is not intersectional, it is not justice.” Sweeping across college campuses, intersectionality turns the focus of justice to physical characteristics. One college website in NY says, “The focus on race ... is to lay emphasis in ...

County GOP Has No Idea How To Improve County Economy

To The Reader’s Forum: In December 2005, when the last Democratic Chautauqua County Executive left office, the county’s labor forcec was 66,500 people. In December 2019, before the pandemic, Chautauqua County’s labor force was only 53,200 people, a decline of 13,300. These numbers are reported monthly by the New York State Department of Labor. The main reason that employers still here in Chautauqua County cannot easily find workers is that there are 13,300 fewer of them left in this devastated county economy. A labor force decline of 20%. (For the Republicans in Mayville who ...

Giglio: Chief Judge Should Recuse From Cuomo Trial

Our governmental institutions – executive, legislative, and judicial - are only as effective as they are trustworthy. We expect our judges to be impartial arbiters of fact, and that is why I am so upset about Chief Judge Janet DiFiore accepting prioritized testing for herself and her family during the recent COVID-19 pandemic in New York. Her acceptance of the privilege to receive speedy, at-home COVID-19 testing while utilizing public health and National Guard assets for herself and her family members violates the spirit, if not the letter, of the Public Officers Law. Worse yet, ...

Nursing Homes Enforce The Distance Rule

To the Readers’ Forum: When are we going to be able to get close to our loved ones? We still have to wear masks, which I understand if your not vaccinated. But why do we still have to stay 6 feet apart during our visits? Even during outside visits? My loved one has been vaccinated and so has the rest of our family, yet we have to stay 6 feet apart while there are employees at these nursing homes who are not vaccinated taking care of our family members. Vaccinations should be manditory if you work in a health care facility. I think every nursing home is making their own rules ...

Say Aloud ‘Hate Has No Home In Jamestown’

To The Reader’s Forum: “Hate has no home in Jamestown” was the theme of a rally in Dow Park organized as a result of what appears to be “white supremacist” defacing of statues depicting “Underground Railroad” participants, as well as after the theft of one of the statues. If you don’t know about the Underground Railroad, you missed a great history lesson from storyteller/historian Paul Leone. What I found disturbing, mostly from my own ignorance, was that the history of Jamestown itself, not to mention the Underground Railroad in Jamestown was not, and may still not ...
