Daniel Francis Courtine

Daniel Francis Courtine

Daniel Francis Courtine, born February 23, 1942, passed away in his sleep on May 5, 2024, at the age of 82. He joins his sister, Karen (Kenny) Seager and his grandson Jameson Courtine in heaven.

Dan is survived by his wife Amy, daughters Dorinda (Kenton) Courtine-White, Donna Zimmerman, Dana (Shawn) Courtine, son Dan (Erica) Courtine, stepdaughter Lindsay (Nick) Lisciandro, grandsons Quinn White, Christan Zimmerman, Tyler Zimmerman, Rhys Courtine, and granddaughter Sage Lisciandro.

Dan was a lover of nature and supported dog rescue organizations (such as the NCCR Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue), the Audubon Society, and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. Some of his children’s best memories are from camping and hiking at Allegany State Park. He loved dogs and was often found out walking with a German shorthaired pointer running large circles around him or sitting at Barcelona Beach swimming with their golden retrievers. Pal, Rebel, Plutewhistle, Shiloh, Rock, Xander, Holly, Eden, and all the others held huge places in his heart.

Dan was known for his love of family. Often giving thanks to his Uncle Joe for showing him what love is, Dan’s fondest memories included taking his kids into the outdoors, on mystery trips, and treating them to Courtine Surprise. He attended every musical, sporting, and academic event for them. He coached their teams and was thrilled to have them all attend the school at which he taught. Dan was a groundbreaker in ensuring that his daughters had the same opportunities to play sports, study wood shop, engineering, and computers, and learn to chop wood and use power tools as anyone else. His attempts to watch hockey every Saturday night with his son always ended with both asleep before the end.

Dan earned a BS in engineering from the University of Detroit, and an MA and Ph.D. from SUNY Buffalo. He was a professor at Jamestown Community College for 30 years. After retiring, Dan continued to read to learn, always having at least one book next to his chair. He studied the Civil War, Native American history, and the Bible.

Dan and Amy devoted many years to the Panama Methodist Church, demonstrating their love for Jesus. Dan found great solace in his church and was at peace for when the Lord chose to take him.
