Jay E. Mathews

He was born April 26, 1937, in Jamestown, the son of Elmer and Dorothy Vincent Mathews.

Jay was a graduate of SWCS and a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1954-62.

He enjoyed cooking, baking and outdoor activities. He had been employed at the Cake Shop, Dahlstrom’s, Chaut. Co. and Ellington Highway Departments, The Resource Center, and ACL.

Jay attended the Family Church in Jamestown.

He was a member of the Ellington Fire Dept. and passionately enjoyed fishing.

Jay is survived by his children: Randy (Janet) Carlson, Laurie Ann Greenawalt, Cyndi (Daniel) Soule, Jay V. Mathews, Rick (Patti) Carlson, Elizabeth Toeltl, and James Albro, several grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a sister, Joyce Lindstrom.

In addition to his wife, Verna Mathews, Jay was predeceased by an infant daughter, Vickie Jaye Mathews and a son Ronnie D. Carlson.

Services will be private.

No visitation will be observed.

Inurnment will be in Valey View Cemetery, Ellington.

The Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg is handling arrangements.
