John G. Funka

DEWITTVILLE — John G. Funka, 68, of Dewittville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec, 25, 2021, at his home.

He was born July 31, 1953, in Canonsburg, Pa., the son of Frances Fredricks Funka and the late John Funka.

John had worked at the Bethlehem Mine as a coal miner then later as a technical recruiter for Select Engineering. He enjoyed writing and composing his own songs on his guitar, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, traveling to Costa Rica, surfing, day trading on the stock market, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ann Delach Funka, whom he married Oct. 20, 1983: his three children: Kelly (Clayton) Appl of Arizona, Sarah (Kevin Rice) Funka of Lakewood, N.Y., and JT (Lora) Funka of Long Island, N.Y.; his grand-daughter; Olivia Taylor and his future grandson, his mother, Frances Fredricks Funka of Ohio; one sister, Colleen Larson of Ohio; and one brother; Mark (Jane) Funka of Virgina.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother-n-law, Craig Larson.

At John’s request there will be no public services observed. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
