Jean B. (van der Meulen) Anderson

MAYVILLE– Jean B. (van der Meulen) Anderson, 93, of Mayville, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021 at Elderwood at Amherst Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Amherst, N.Y., following a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Dunkirk, N.Y. the daughter of the late Sieberen and Marie Rusinowski van der Meulen.

Jean was a career homemaker and a devoted wife and mother of 6 chil-ren. She was also an election inspector for many years.

She was a previous active member of the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, a past volunteer with the Mayville Library book sales, and a past member of the Mayville American Legion William L. Travis Post 493 Auxiliary.

Jean loved cooking, baking, crossword puzzles, playing cards, playing cribbage with her husband, watching game shows, reading, cheering for the Buffalo Bills, hearing about her grandchildren’s sporting events and interests, and she enjoyed her daffodil garden. But, most of all, being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother brought her the greatest pride and joy.

She is survived by her six children; Richard (Cindy) Anderson Jr. of Mayville, Robert (Donna) Anderson of Amherst, Donald Anderson of Mayville , Deborah (Elmer) Kaprolat Jr. of Radford, V.A., Kathleen (Bruce) Sweeney of Ashville, and Beth (Scot) Cummings of Mayville; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) Anderson of Lakewood, Amy (Alan) Pomeroy of Mayville, Sarah Anderson-Saletta (Mike) of Alden, Katelin Kaprolat (Josh Cox)of Radford, V.A., Kelsey Kaprolat of Richmond, VA, Ashley (Ryan) Mayle of Ashville, Lauren (Jake) Gleason of Ashville, and Allison Cummings of Mayville; and eight great grandchildren with one more expected in May.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband; Richard A. Anderson, Sr. whom she married Aug. 24, 1946, and who died Dec. 18, 2016, and her beloved brother; A. William van der Meulen.

There will be no services observed at this time. A private graveside service will be held in the Mayville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
