Doris E. Overend

Doris E. Overend, 88, formerly of Wilson Hollow Road, Falconer passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020, in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

A lifelong area resident, she was born April 15, 1931, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Arvid and Sarah E. Carlberg Gustafson.

Doris was a 1949 graduate of Falconer High School and in earlier years was employed by National Worsted Mills, Marlin Rockwell Corporation, Century Houseware and was an Avon representative. Prior to retirement in 2003, Doris was employed by Falconer Central School for over 30 years. Along with her husband, they owned a Holstein and beef cattle farm on Wilson Hollow Road, Falconer. They were both active in many farm organizations and Home Bureau.

She was a member of the Ross Grange 305 for 65 years and had served as chaplain, the NYS Southern Tier Porcelain Artists, Poland Senior Citizens, Gerry Rodeo City Seniors and Best Years Fellowship at Levant Wesleyan Church. Doris was a former member of the Apple Siders Square Dancers Club, Frewsburg Circling Squares and Penn York National Square Dance Camp Club.

Doris enjoyed making porcelain dolls, ornaments and dishes. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, floral arrangements and had made many specialty and wedding cakes. She loved her family and camping with them. She was very blessed with such a wonderful family.

Surviving are two daughters: Jennifer (Archie) Doud of South Euclid, Ohio and Marlene (Joe) Martin of Falconer; four sons: Roger (Sue) Overend and Dana (Sally) Overend, all of Falconer, Keith (Susan) Overend of Greensboro, N.C., and Ret. Lt. Col. John (Deb) Overend of Tonganoxie, Kans.; 12 grandchildren: Rosanne (Jay) Carr of Cassadaga, Robin (Matt) Shute of Camillus, Daniel (Melody) Overend and Steven Overend, all of Falconer, Jim Martin and Matt Overend, both of Silver Bay, N.Y., Brittany Buchanan of Ashville, N.C., Emily Whitehead and Monika Overend, both of Tonganoxie, Kans,, Katherine (Tyler) Sherer of Madison, Ala., Brian (Kristen) Doud of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Elizabeth (Paul) Couture of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; 14 great grandchildren: Gerald Carr IV, Hayden Carr, Ella Blount, Avery Shute, Oliver Shute, Audrey Couture, Leo Doud, Iliana Doud, Laurel Doud, Levi Overend, Lucas Overend, Samantha Overend, Sawyer Whitehead and Lincoln Whitehead; a brother-in-law, Alton Folchmer of South Carolina; and a sister-in- law, Susie Gustafson of Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Overend, whom she married Oct. 31, 1953 and who died Aug. 7, 2010; a son, Brian E. Overend on May 14, 1976; two brothers: Gilbert Gustafson and Robert Gustafson; and two sisters: Ruth D. Folchmer and Mildred McKee.

A private funeral service will be held in the Falconer Funeral Home due to Covid-19 restrictions. The Rev. Dan Bender chaplain of Heritage Ministries will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.
