Ross Emery Munson

He was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Sherman, N.Y., the son of the late Arlington and Edith Darling Munson.

Ross was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean conflict.

He had worked for and retired from the NYS Department of Transportation, where he worked as a carpenter and maintenance worker.

Ross was a lifetime member of the Dewittville Fire Department, where he served for over 60 years, and a member of the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering.

Ross is survived by his wife, Jane Read Munson, whom he married Dec. 18, 1955, in the North Clymer United Methodist Church; five children: Jeff Munson, Vince (Korie) Munson, Greg (Debbie) Munson, Autumn (Bob) Tate Jr., and Annette (Rich) Latham; nine grandchildren: Matt (Heather) Munson, Luke (Sabrina) Munson, Benjamin and Hannah Munson, Amanda, Jessica and Breanna Tate, Steven and Veronica Latham., three great grandchildren; Madison, Lilly and Nora Munson; and one brother, Ray Munson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; Valerie Munson; a granddaughter, Lydia Munson; and two sisters: Katherine (Munson) Nickerson and Marion (Munson) Barry.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church (5452 Meadows Road, Dewittville, NY 14728). The Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in the Dewittville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Dewittville Fire Department (P.O. Box 28, Dewittville 14728) or to the Dewittville-Hartfield UMC (P.O. Box 416 Dewittville, NY 14728).
