CHAUTAUQUA — A new housing project in the town of Chautauqua continues to progress.

The Chautauqua Town Board has scheduled a public hearing for March 8 at 7:15 p.m. to establish a new water district for the Mandolin Ridge Development.

Mandolin Ridge is a 54 lot subdivision located near the intersection of Chautauqua Stedman Road and Route 394 in the town of Chautauqua.

H&H Chautauqua Development LLC is the owner of the project and Mayshark Builders Inc. of Mayville is the developer.

Andy Johnson with Eco Strategies spoke about the water project during the Chautauqua Town Board meeting this week. He noted that the developer is not running water taps to each lot because some people may purchase more than one lot and will not need multiple taps. “We were hoping we can get the main line installed and work with individual homes owners. That way we don’t have 25 stubs that are dead ends that never get used, and we’d have to pay for all of those,” he said.

Johnson said they will line the underground plastic water pipes with a tracer wire, so they can be located if necessary. The same thing was done with the sewer lines.

Johnson also said they plan on boring the water lines under the roads, so they don’t have to rip up the roads and repave them. “We don’t want to cut up pavement and have to repatch stuff and have a bunch of patches,” he said.

Supervisor Donald Emhardt said the project has started but is on hold due to the weather. “Once the weather breaks they’ll be moving right ahead with it,” he said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
