ASHVILLE — Next to the Ashville General Store sits a red and grey trailer, home to Tammy’s Common Threads, a business with a focus on upholstery work; remaking or repairing furniture and bringing it back to life.
Owned by Tammy Ormond and located at 4854 Route 474, Tammy’s Common Threads has been in operation for about four years. Ormond said she began the business because she enjoys sewing and meeting new people.
“I like a challenge,” Ormond said. “I like that we do not do the same things over and over again, and there is always a different project. I’ve met a lot of nice people through this business.”
Specifically, Ormond’s business works on furniture, tearing it down, making sure everything is solid and putting it back together. Ormond added that they will replace anything that is needed and will do frame work as well, fixing and putting them back together. There are fabric companies that will also come to Ormond for fabric.
“I like to meet new people, and a lot of them will bring what you could call family heirlooms to be fixed, like their grandma’s couch,” Ormond said. “I really enjoy what I do and get compliments from customers all the time. Customers are very satisfied with my work, and I do a good quality job.”
While Ormond only works at this business part time, she also recently got a new sign made by Molly Brown, about a year and a half ago, which is working to help highlight the business and bring in more customers. She added that she hopes people who come to her will leave satisfied.
“I take pride in my work,” Ormond said. “I want customers to leave here satisfied. I enjoy meeting new people and I hope that they are satisfied and will come back. I’ve had several customers come back because they were happy with the work, and I just really enjoy meeting new people.”
