Man charged after digging up time capsule GERRY --- Deputies were notified of a man digging up the Town of Gerry’s time capsule without permission. Deputies on scene found that 69-year-old Dennis R Torrey of Jamestown had unlawfully dug up the time capsule damaging the concrete that encased it. Torrey was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and was released with an appearance ticket with orders to appear in the Town of Gerry Court at a later date. CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE – SHERIDAN – Gary A. Lang, 56, of Deer Street, Dunkirk was charged Tuesday with petit larceny. Deputies said they received a complaint of a prowler at a residence on Rt. 20 in the town of Sheridan around 1:30 a.m. Further investigation into this complaint by the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division led to Lang being identified via security footage from this residence looking in the windows. Warren of Jamestown was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, unregistered motor vehicle, no inspection and operating without insurance at 3:23 p.m. Monday. According to a police report, the Jamestown Police K-9 Unit was assisting the Lakewood-Busti Police Department find a stolen motor vehicle in Jamestown. ELLICOTT POLICE - Tevin Lise, 33, of Falconer was charged with second-degree menacing, second-degree criminal impersonation and parole absconder warrant at 11:10 a.m. Saturday after Ellicott police officers responded to a domestic incident where it is alleged Lise had a valid parole warrant and was possibly armed with a firearm. Ellicott police officers were assisted by the State Police and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office; the agencies were able to take Lise into custody without incident. Vacant home damaged in Saturday fire A fire early Saturday morning damaged a vacant home at 24 Broadhead Ave., Jamestown. The property is currently owned by the Chautauqua County Land Bank. Jamestown firefighters responded to the fire at 12:15 a.m. and found the front porch of the home on fire with fire extending to the front porch roof and involving the vinyl siding of the second story and roof eaves at the corner of the building.
