CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT MAYVILLE — A Portville woman is facing a number of charges after a traffic accident at 3:12 p.m. Aug. 11. Deputies responded to an incident with injury at Routes 394 and 430. Upon arrival, deputies were advised that one of the vehicles involved had fled the scene. A short time later the vehicle was located at a residence and the operator identified as Penny A. Payne, 66, of Portville. Bush blaze quickly quelled in Dunkirk Dunkirk firefighters extinguished a bush and shrub fire on Saturday morning near a building. At 6:24 a.m., the Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to 60-62 Franklin Ave. Upon arrival, crews found bushes and shrubs burning on the southwest corner of the building. Crews used 1¾ hand line, tools and ventilation fans to extinguish the fire and clear light smoke conditions in a first floor office.
