Fire Destroys Garage In Busti

A garage and all of its contents were destroyed in a fire that broke out Wednesday night in the town of Busti.

Firefighters from numerous departments were called at 8:19 p.m. to 3757 Bake Street Ext. for the blaze.

Members of the county’s Fire Investigation Team later responded; the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

≤ Devon E.A. Diers, 20, of Jamestown, was charged with third-degree criminal tampering. Officers responded at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to Appleyard Terrace on East Second Street regarding a separate incident. While on scene, Diers allegedly spit on the hood of the victim’s vehicle after an argument, causing an inconvenience. Diers was held for arraignment in court.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

≤ SHERIDAN – At 9:56 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were dispatched to Cook Road for a suspicious vehicle complaint. During the course of the investigation, deputies located the operator 49-year-old Steven C. Schmidt of Fort Thomas, Ky. Schmidt was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated and was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He will be in town court later to answer the charges.

≤ HANOVER – At around 9:21 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to Burger King for a vehicle complaint of a possible intoxicated driver. The suspect vehicle was observed not using a turning signal while leaving the parking lot and entering onto Route 5 and 20 in front of traffic.

After conducting a traffic stop the operator of the vehicle was identified as 39-year-old Jenny L. Bish, of Derby. Upon investigation it was found that Bish was driving while intoxicated and operating the vehicle with a BAC above 0.18%. She will answer charges in town court later.
