Area Police Reports

¯ SHERMAN — An Erie, Pa., man is facing drunken driving charges following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 86.

The New York State Police on Monday announced the arrest of 34-year-old Robert Ludwig.

Troopers responded to the westbound lane of the interstate in Sherman for a reported two-vehicle collision with injuries. An investigation found that Ludwig was apparently traveling west at a high rate of speed when he changed lanes and rear-ended another vehicle.

The crash forced the Erie man’s vehicle to strike two guard rails.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, the state police said in a news release.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported by Sherman firefighters to a local hospital for treatment of chest pain. Ludwig was not injured in the crash.

The Erie man reportedly failed field sobriety tests and later provided a breath sample of 0.13%. He was processed on a charge of driving while intoxicated and is scheduled to appear in Sherman Town Court later.

¯ SINCLAIRVILLE — Austin T. Schwab, 26, of Sinclairville, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division conducted a larceny investigation in which several guns were stolen from a Sinclairville residence. It was found that Schwab allegedly removed the guns from the home without the owner’s permission. He was taken into custody Monday and is scheduled to appear in Gerry Town Court later.
