Area Police Reports

NEW YORK STATE POLICE

¯ SHERMAN — An Erie, Pa., man is facing drunken driving charges following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 86.

The New York State Police on Monday announced the arrest of 34-year-old Robert Ludwig.

Troopers responded to the westbound lane of the interstate in Sherman for a reported two-vehicle collision with injuries. An investigation found that Ludwig was apparently traveling west at a high rate of speed when he changed lanes and rear-ended another vehicle.

The crash forced the Erie man’s vehicle to strike two guard rails.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, the state police said in a news release.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported by Sherman firefighters to a local hospital for treatment of chest pain. Ludwig was not injured in the crash.

The Erie man reportedly failed field sobriety tests and later provided a breath sample of 0.13%. He was processed on a charge of driving while intoxicated and is scheduled to appear in Sherman Town Court later.
