Area Man Pleads Guilty To Receiving Child Porn

A Jamestown-area man pleaded guilty Wednesday to receiving child pornography.

Shane Guay, previously a resident of Olean, entered the guilty plea before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan A. Tokash, who is handling the case, stated that in November 2016, Guay allegedly solicited minor victims through Instagram to produce images of child pornography. On Nov. 6, 2016, he reportedly received an image of a 12-year-old. Two days later, Guay reportedly received two images from a 13-year-old.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers recovered 587 images and five videos of child pornography on electronic devices seized from Guay. Some of the images included prepubescent children, as well as depictions of violence.

The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The plea is the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations; the HSI Office of International Affairs in S. Africa; the New York State Police, the Olean Police Department, the Harris County, GA Sheriff’s Office; and the Ayer, Massachusetts Police Department.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 1, 2021, at 2 p.m. before Sinatra.
