Mayville Man Facing Manslaughter Charge After Fatal Accident

Joshua D. Huntress

A Mayville man involved in a fatal vehicle accident in Wyoming County on Sunday is now facing a manslaughter charge.

According to the New York State Police, 28-year-old Joshua D. Huntress has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, driving while ability impaired by drugs and several other vehicle and traffic violations in connection to an accident that occurred on Route 20A in the town of Orangeville.

Police said Huntress, at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, was traveling westbound on Route 20A when he reportedly crossed into the eastbound lane and struck two oncoming motorcycles, each with a passenger.

One of the passengers, 66-year-old Tomasa Martinez of North Tonanwanda, was transported to Wyoming County Community Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The three other motorcycle occupants were transported to Erie County Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries.

Huntress was arraigned in Warsaw Court and remanded to Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail. He will be returned to Warsaw Town Court on a future date for further proceedings.

According to state police, Huntress was involved in another vehicle accident that, again, involved drugs. Police said Huntress, on April 24, veered off Route 430 in Ellery while under the influence of a narcotic. He was uninjured and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana.
