Ripley man injured after being struck by train

RIPLEY --- A Ripley resident escaped serious injury after being struck by a train Saturday evening. Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies responded with the Ripley Fire Department and New York State Police to a reported train-versus-pedestrian incident around 9:20 p.m. It was reported the pedestrian attempted to cross the tracks before the train crossed which resulted in the pedestrian being struck. A long awaited housing project in Westfield has yet to begin, but one county leader believes it will start before the end of the year. Sherman discusses speed, traffic issues

SHERMAN - Sherman officials are having preliminary discussions about ways to decrease speeding and parking throughout the village. During a recent board meeting, Colleen Meeder, Sherman mayor, said she had attended a Safe Streets event hosted by Erie County. The Community Development Block Grant money available for safe streets can be used to improve sidewalks, but cannot be used for trail improvement, she said.
