Community invited for launch of Jamestown YMCA on JCC campus

2 min read

The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the Jamestown Area YMCA's move to SUNY Jamestown Community College and the launch of its partnership with the JAY Wellness Center. The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in the Physical Education Complex on the Jamestown Campus.

The JAY Wellness Center is the centerpiece of a partnership between JCC and the Jamestown Area YMCA to expand access to health and wellness services. The $48 million project will bring together community wellness, athletics, and youth development in a unified hub on the Jamestown Campus.

As part of the first phase of renovations to the existing JCC Physical Education Complex, the YMCA's membership-based wellness operations in downtown Jamestown have moved to the campus athletic facilities on Falconer Street.

The new JCC YMCA Branch began welcoming new and existing members on Aug. 17 and will officially celebrate its opening with a public grand opening on Sept. 14. This initial integration allows area residents to continue to have access to cardio, strength-training, aquatic and indoor track facilities as JCC and the YMCA move forward with the next phases of development.

Future phases of the project include additional renovations to the JCC Physical Education Building, construction of a 52,000-square-foot health and wellness center, renovations to existing campus space to create an early learning childcare center, and turf upgrades to JCC's existing athletic fields.

The Jamestown Area YMCA and JCC named the facility by combining the YMCA's identity with the college's Jayhawk mascot. Supported by the YMCA's community-based wellness programming and JCC's campus facilities and athletic resources, the JAY creates a shared environment focused on health, engagement and long-term sustainability.
