The event happens annually for children to safely explore and have an eventful night of fun.
The Safety Village Halloween Funfair will be taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. This event will allow children to come in costume and trick or treat at various buildings within the village. Those present giving out candy will mostly be representatives from the various business “residents” of the village. Executive Director Jessica Dayton stated that these businesses will include Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, Inner Lakes Federal Credit Union, Wegmans, Chautauqua Opportunities, and the Sheriff Deputies Association to name a few. Dayton noted that about 20 businesses and organizations from around the community will be present. If a location within the safety village cannot provide representation, then arrangements will be made for outside organizations to pass out candy to the children, according to Dayton.
“We wanted to provide a safe place for families to come and retreat, and make it as real to life as possible. So, you know, being able to go to the different buildings and trick-or-treat would be similar to going house-to-house,” said Dayton.
The event will also contain a host of other activities for kids to enjoy after collecting candy. There will be crafts, kettle corn, train rides, games, bounce houses, and various other activities available. Dayton mentioned that there will be four walk-through buildings as well. The little witches building and monster mash building are two examples of these walk-throughs, according to Dayton. Dayton noted that these buildings, as well as everything else present at the event, are family friendly and child oriented. There will also be some of the most beloved children’s characters present and ready to get pictures with all who desire. Characters will include members of the Paw Patrol team, according to Dayton.

The event will occur regardless of weather conditions, and will largely take place outdoors. Due to this, the safety village workers warn to dress appropriately for the occasion. Tickets to the event are available online, or at the door up until 6;45 p.m. when admissions close. Individuals with a 2026 safety village membership, as well as children two and under, may attend the event at no cost. The event is expected to run until 7:30 p.m. For more information visit chautauquasafetyvillage.com.
