Relief Fund Established To Assist Puerto Rico

Western New York officials and Latino community leaders have united to form the WNY Puerto Rico Relief Fund. According to a release sent by one of the fund’s media contacts, Dunkirk city attorney Richard Morrisroe, the fund looks to raise funds for Hurricane Fiona survivors. It also intends to advocate for sustainable, resilient infrastructure, especially the Puerto Rican power grid, which has remained fragile since 2017’s Hurricane Maria. The relief fund has established an online donations site at https://donorbox.org/wny-puerto-rico-relief-fund and will sponsor fundraisers in the near future. The fund supports Gov. Kathy Hochul’s decision to send a state delegation to Puerto Rico for assistance and assessment of Fiona relief efforts, according to Morrisroe’s release. It also thanks state Sen. Tim Kennedy for traveling to the island last week and reporting what he witnessed. Additionally, the fund also backs a call by state Attorney General Letitia James for an investigation into Puerto Rican energy provider LUMA Energy.
