FREWSBURG — The town of Carroll will be purchasing property along Water Street to improve access to a new water tank that will be installed next spring.

Earlier this month, the board unanimously approved purchasing 115 Water St. for $20,000. Russell Payne, town supervisor, said the property the town will be purchasing is adjacent to town land where a new water tank will be installed starting next spring.

“The house was in rough shape and in dire need of repair, which made it easy to purchase the property. It is the ideal location to create the access road,” he said.

Payne said the installation of the new water tank is a two-phase project. He said town officials are replacing both metal water tanks with new glass lined ones. The other tank is located on Wigren Road.

“The new 750,000 gallon tank (on Water Street) will be done first,” Payne said. “Then a secondary tank over on Wigren Road (will be installed). Both tanks comprise our reserve water system. Those tanks need to be upgraded per our engineer for state specifications.”

Prior to the board approving the land purchase a public hearing on the issue was held. Payne said one person spoke in favor of the land purchase during the public hearing.

In other business, the board approved a resolution implementing a once-a-month “Dumpster Day,” which started June 12 and will continue through October. Payne said instead of just having one-day-a-summer to be dumpster day, the town will hold one on the second Saturday of each month. Town residents will need to purchase a permit punch card for $25 from the town to participate in the dumpster day.

“It gives the people of the town of Carroll more time and more available times for the dumpster to be available,” he said.

Payne said the first dumpster day and the purchasing of the permit punch card has been well-received by town residents. “There has been a lot of activity in purchasing the permits and lot of people showed up to get rid of items,” he said. “We’re not taking liquids and electric items. Also, for yard waste there is a separate area for that for no charge. ”

Payne said the dumpster will be located behind the Frewsburg Town Hall, located at 5 Main St.
