EAST OTTO — One person was killed and another seriously injured following a one-car crash Wednesday in Cattaraugus County.

Deputies responded around 4:30 p.m. to the crash on East Otto-Springville Road in the town of East Otto for a report of occupants trapped in the vehicle.

An investigation determined Terry S. Francis, 56, of Tonawanda, was northbound in his vehicle when he lost control and entered a ditch. The vehicle then went airborne over a creek and came to rest in an embankment.

Francis was airlifted to ECMC with serious injuries.

A passenger, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Cattaraugus County Coroner.

East Otto-Springville Road was closed for several hours to allow investigator to reconstruct the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing; no charges are pending.

Also responding Wednesday were members of the East Otto Fire and EMS, Mercy EMS and Mercy Flight.
