CASSADAGA — Many summer construction projects throughout Chautauqua County are coming to an end.

The Dale Drive project in the village of Cassadaga is one such undertaking, and looks to be ending soon, according to Mayor Bill Astry at the latest meeting of the Village Board.

“The Dale Drive project is probably 99% complete,” Astry said. “They’re waiting for some extensions for the catch-basins.”

Public Works Superintendent Sam Alaimo added, “They’re supposed to be delivered on Monday.”

Off that note, Alaimo also described the situation regarding water on the road.

“There were some questions about the water on Dale Drive,” he said. “The catch-basins all have a silt filter in them at the moment until the grass grows. Basically, it’s a two-foot bag that drops in there under the grate, so it catches 20 gallons worth of silt.”

Alaimo went on to mention the loss of top soil from the county on certain lawns along Dale Drive.

“We did lose a little bit of the top soil over there yesterday,” he said. “It’s too bad that not everybody watered their lawn. … Where the grass is, it still is, where it isn’t, it isn’t.”

To remedy the situation on the road, Alaimo noted he had personally cleaned up village roads, while utilizing shared services.

“I did go and get Stockton’s tractor to clean up all the gravel out in Dale Drive and other spots in the village,” he said, adding, “Cleaned up some trees that came down (too).”

Alaimo said the county does plan to address the top soil issue on Dale Drive. “I haven’t heard too many complaints about Dale Drive,” he said. “Everybody seems fairly happy.”

In other news, Deputy Mayor Cindy Flaherty provided an update on a new donation to the beach.

“We’ve had a pickleball net donated,” Flaherty said. “We’re averaging about 70 people per day, not counting the (large-scale) events. … We’ve (also) had no serious injuries.”

The next meeting of the Village Board will be Wednesday at 7 p.m.
