Town Of Poland Appoints New Code Enforcement Officer

KENNEDY — The town of Poland has a new code enforcement officer.

The Town Board at its July 9 meeting appointed Eric Yager to the position at a salary of $5,000. He replaces Alan Gustafson, who resigned for a new position, effective June 30. Gustafson said he will help Yager with the transition.

In other business, Assessor Heather Young-Deyell informed the board that the 2019 final assessment roll had been filed with the county and state. She will be reviewing the last year’s sales during July and August, and continuing with inspections for the updating of valuations.

Highway Superintendent Larry Mee told the board that he had filed for the first CHIPS reimbursement that week. It was for about $55,000.

They are planning on doing blacktop work on Dailey Hill Road, and should be able to file for that reimbursement in August. His department has been mowing and cutting shoulders on town roads for better drainage. Oiling and stoning work has been done.

County Legislator John Davis sent a report to the board. He noted that a roll call vote passed overwhelmingly to help subsidize the airport in Jamestown. He said he voted in favor of the resolution after talking with many different knowledgeable people. The funds would come from the occupancy monies, which cannot be used to lower property taxes, but must be used for projects which promote tourism.

Davis said he also talked to Sheriff Jim Quattrone about Oak Hill tower lighting. He said he and the sheriff about the safety of first responders when they are going on mutual aid calls to areas outside the county. There has been concern about radio contact with them at times.

The Town Board next meets Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m.
