Citizen Tips Lead To City Man Being Taken Into Police Custody

Citizen tips led to drug charges against a Jamestown man on Wednesday.

Lucas A. Smyczek, 31, of Jamestown was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, at 6:53 p.m. Wednesday at Cherry and West Eighth streets.

According to a police report, officers responded for a reported narcotics investigation after people said there was suspicious vehicle traffic in the area. Officers report seeing a vehicle on Cherry Street that tried to leave the area when police arrived.

When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, a man officers believed to be the driver got out and ran away.

After a short chase, officers found Smyczek near Lafayette Street and Isabella Avenue.

Smyczek allegedly refused all of the officers’ commands and refused to comply, with officers reporting they had to forcibly take Smyczek into custody.

An investigation showed Smyczek allegedly tried to conceal and throw a large amount of narcotic drugs away.

Smyczek was also wanted by the state Parole Division and had active arrest warrants from other area police agencies.

Smyczek was taken to the Jamestown City Jail until he could be arraigned.
