Woman Charged After Identifying Self As Twin

Maranda Hayden

SHERIDAN — Giving the name of your twin apparently won’t protect you long-term during an arrest. That’s what an Irving woman learned after reportedly using her identical twin sister’s name while being arrested.

As previously reported, on Sunday at about 9:45 a.m., Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies on patrol stopped a vehicle for an observed violation on Center Road in the town of Sheridan. The female operator identified herself at that time. During the course of that interaction, the female was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine and hypodermic needles. She was charged and released with citations at that time.

On Monday deputies received information alleging that the female operator, during the previous traffic stop, had provided deputies with the identifying information of her identical twin sister.

Following a brief investigation, deputies located and arrested Maranda M. Hayden, 24.

From the initial traffic stop, Maranda Hayden was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession controlled substance, criminally possessing hypodermic instrument, unlicensed operator, and moved from lane unsafely. She was additionally charged with second-degree criminal impersonation.

Maranda Hayden was arraigned and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of bail.
