Chautauqua Big Band Swing To Play Thursday

CHERRY CREEK — Music of the 40s will fill Memorial Park on Main Street in Cherry Creek as Chautauqua Big Band Swing comes to town on Thursday. Located behind the Town Hall, the gazebo in the center of the Memorial Park continues to host local musicians as the 2017 Cherry Creek Summer Gazebo Concert Series continues. Music begins at 6:30 and will conclude at 8:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the concert venue will be the pavilion of the ballpark, further down Main Street in the village.

Those planning to attend are reminded that supper-type refreshments will be available, and to bring their own lawn chairs for seating.

Comprised primarily of music educators from throughout Chautauqua County, Big Band Swing expertly performs music popular during the World War II era, showcasing tunes of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. Several members of the group will perform solos during the evening.

“Big band music is so much fun to dance to,” said Brenda Hendricks of the Cherry Creek Community Association, Inc. “The concert season theme has been Country Time Music and Dance, and this group plays music you can fox-trot, waltz or swing dance to. Our dance pad is sure to get a workout.”

The 2017 Cherry Creek Gazebo Concert Series is sponsored by the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc., and funded in part by the NYS Council On The Arts Decentralization Regrant Program, with support from the NYS Legislature, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo and administered by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council. This program is also supported by area businesses, the Town and Village of Cherry Creek and community members.
