MAYVILLE — A north county teen has been sentenced as an adult to a decade in prison for a July 2022 shooting that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old Cassadaga male.

In addition to the 10-year term, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that Andres Lopez also will receive five years of post-release supervision.

Jason Schmidt, Chautauqua County district attorney, had sought a 20-year prison sentence for Lopez, who in January pleaded guilty to a first-degree manslaughter charge.

Sentencing took place Friday morning in Chautauqua County Court.

Lopez was accused of shooting Joseph Misciagno once in the back during a fight the evening of July 5, 2022. The fight, and subsequent fatal shooting, occurred “just outside a baseball field where little leaguers and their families were present,” Schmidt said last month.

Jury selection was set to begin in County Court when Lopez pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge. His identity had been withheld because he was a youth at the time of the shooting. Schmidt announced Friday that Lopez was sentenced as an adult.
