City Man Sentenced In Fatal Stabbing Case

Carl W. Sorenson

A Jamestown man who pleaded guilty last year to second-degree manslaughter was sentenced to five to 10 years in state prison.

Carl W. Sorenson was recently turned over to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. He was formally sentenced last week in court, though the prison term had already been agreed upon when a plea deal was announced in October of last year.

The Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office handled the prosecution.

Sorenson had been indicted on a second-degree murder charge and faced up to life in prison for the July 6, 2020, fatal stabbing of Brandon Holland.

It wasn’t known Friday at which facility Sorenson will serve his sentence.

Holland, 23, was stabbed in the chest around 10:30 p.m. July 6, 2020, as he walked along North Main Street in Jamestown. He was taken to UPMC Chautauqua but later pronounced dead.

Sorenson was taken into custody at his Washington Street apartment the following day. He was represented by the Chautauqua County Public Defender’s Office.
