FALCONER — Due to health and safety concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, the village of Falconer has postponed several upcoming events and activities, including the Easter egg hunt, the village-wide clean-up day and all brush collections previously scheduled throughout the month of April.

The status of other upcoming events is conditional based upon state guidelines for public safety during the outbreak.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ruled that all non-essential construction must stop immediately. Should a project be unsafe to stop at this time, construction would be allowed to continue, at the discretion of the code officer, only until it is safe to stop. The only exceptions are projects directly associated with fighting the COVID-19 crisis or directly associated with keeping the government running.

In support of the governor’s order, the Falconer code office will only issue emergency “health and safety” building permits and inspections, until further notice. Those planning a project and would like to submit paperwork in advance may email the code officer at code@villageoffalconer.com or call 665-4400 from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Residents are reminded that no work may be performed without a permit issued by the village code officer.

Village parks remain open for social distancing activities; however, playgrounds, basketball courts and tennis courts have been closed at the recommendation of Cuomo.

Village offices remain closed to the public, and residents with questions or concerns may call 665-4400.

“We are aware that these changes may be difficult and cause inconveniences to some of our residents, however, the safety and well-being of all of our residents is our utmost concern,” the village said in a news release.
