A firefighter was taken to the hospital for injuries suffered in a blaze that engulfed a city property late Friday.

The blaze at 719 Cherry St. was reported around 10:30 p.m. Heavy smoke was visible in the downtown area as first responders were summoned.

Upon arrival, crews found the property fully engulfed by fire. A neighboring property at 717 Cherry St. was also damaged.

One firefighter was treated by paramedics and transported to the hospital.

Off-shift crews were called, as were two city fire investigators.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
