Midsommar Celebration Part Of Scandinavian Folk Festival

A past downtown midsommar celebration is pictured during a prior Scandinavian Folk Festival.

The Scandinavian Folk Festival will include a midsommar celebration as part of its July 19-20 festivities.

The commemoration will take place at the start of the Jamestown Farmer’s Market at 10 a.m. July 19 when a 20-foot midsommar pole will be decorated in greens and flowers. The event is free and open to the public. Those attending can gather up some of their own flowers and put them on the pole in honor of their ancestors. Beginning at 11 a.m. the festival’s folk dancers and musicians, along with the community, will process the pole along West Third Street to Lafayette Street, where it will be erected.

Once the pole is erected, there will be ring dancing on Lafayette Street. Instruction for each dance will be explained. All of the above is free and open to the public. For more information, check out Facebook or scandinavianjamestown.org or call 716-665-0883.

Starting at $3.50/week.
